Frank's Rules for NPC Development

GM: She broke character!
Frank: Come on GM, it’s not like Veronica’s character has a whole lot of depth.

Frank: She’s literally an object for the PCs to rescue to show how scary I am.

Veronica: Hey!

Veronica: I am not an object.

Frank: If we replace you with a treasure chest, the adventure wouldn’t change.

GM: A treasure chest would be quieter.

Transcript

Panel 1

In the interior of the lighthouse, GM stands angrily next to the right door to the balcony entrance. He’s glaring upwards, his hands to either side. Part of Frank’s hand can be seen from where it’s around his shoulder, along with half of Frank’s face as he leans towards GM, looking up at him.

“She broke character!” yells GM.

Panel 2

Frank and GM stand in front of the balcony entrance. Frank is leaning closer to GM in a conspiratorial manner, who looks back at him, arms crossed, an unimpressed expression on his face.

“Come on GM, it’s not like Veronica’s character has a whole lot of depth,” says Frank.

Panel 3

Frank stands in front of a light blue background, outlined in white to help contrast him from the background. His body is facing slightly to the left, has his hand are held up in front of him in a claw-like gesture. His eyes are narrowed, and he has a sneer on his face as he speaks.

“She’s literally an object for the PCs to rescue to show how scary I am,” Frank says.

To the left, off panel, Veronica yells, “Hey!”

Panel 4

Veronica, Frank, and GM stand in front of the entrance to the lighthouse’s balcony. Veronica is glaring at Frank, whose eyes are closed and is holding his hands in front of him in a prayer like gesture. GM, meanwhile, still has his arms crossed, and is rolling his eyes.

“I am not an object.” says Veronica.

“If we replace you with a treasure chest, the adventure wouldn’t change,” says Frank.

“A treasure chest would be quieter,” says GM.
